Office Problems that Only a Woman Can Understand

When you are only woman in the office crowded with men, you will as if all eyes are on you. Soon, you realize that this will not work out, as the guys are always taking credit for your ideas, asking you for favors, or hitting on you, which calls for a sexual harassment suit if they cross their limits. When you are the only woman in the office, what kind of problems do you deal with? Let us look at some of them:

1.     Your Male Co-Workers Make More Money than You

You work just as well or even better than your male colleagues, but you are not paid as much as they do, which is unfair. Since you cannot do anything, you stick to eating popcorns at home while watching a movie or TV show called “The Underpaid Life of a Woman.”

2.     When another Woman Joins the Office

When another woman joins the office, everyone automatically assumes you will be best friends with her. It is not like you do not want to be friends with her, but the assumption that you two should be because you both are girls is plain wrong.

3.     Wearing Your New Dress to the Office

You wore your new dress to the office, only to be bombarded with glances from your male colleagues, fixated on your every move. Perhaps, you wore the wrong dress to work, a thought that will definitely come to mind, Next time you pick a dress to wear at work, make sure it is not see-through or low-cut.

4.     When a Male Colleague Offers to Mentor You

When the male colleague asks to mentor you, the only thing you have on your mind is what his intentions are towards you. Is he being genuine or is this some new way of hitting on a girl? The last thing you want is an office romance.

5.     When a Male Co-Worker Makes a Sexist Comment

“Thank you for bringing me tea?” “Will you tell me where your boss is?” “Now, that is a good girl.” Sexist comments in the office place for a woman are like bee stings. Unfortunately, woman have to deal with these types of comments, but what makes it worse is when they are subtle and it goes over their heads, only to realize later and boil up with anger.

Have you faced any type of discrimination at work because of your gender, orientation, religion or race? If you have, share your stories with us.
