Why You Should Focus on Improving Body Language

Through body language, people convey a lot about themselves. In fact, it has become the basis for befriending someone to hiring someone for a job. Body language is one of the first things that people see and it’s through body language that people are able to deduce a person’s personality.

Just from the way, you stand and walk, people from afar can tell what type of person you might be. Therefore, you have the pressure to create a good impression by impressing people with your body language. You can start by correcting a few main things about body language:

  Command Your Hands to Stop

While talking to someone, don’t twirl your hair, clutch your bag, or fiddle with anything close to you. People who can’t control their hands come off as unconfident, shy, and nervous. Moreover, for the person sitting across from you, it’s a big distraction, unless they also can’t command their hands to stop.

  Gaze into Their Eyes

It’s vital that your eyes remain transfixed with theirs. However, this doesn’t give you the permission to gawk at them, as it will freak them out and send them running for the hills. Instead, try to relax your gaze and listen to what they have to say. Learning this may help you land jobs and work wonders on dates, as it conveys that you are alert and interested.

  Pause in between Sentences

No one likes a rambler who goes on and on about something without pausing to think what he or she is actually saying. It can create for an awkward conversation if you happen to say something you weren’t suppose to. Therefore, pause in between sentences to gather your thoughts and form articulate questions.

Study the Body Language of the Elite

The best way to pick tricks about body language is to refer to the gurus of body language. Media personalities or people that you admire from your inner circle that have perfected the art of body language can help you with yours. You can watch them on tape to study their gestures. If you know someone personally, ask him or her for tips.

  Dress Appropriately

Throw away the Justin Bieber pants that look more like diaper than pants. The facts that it’s a fashion trend sends shivers down our spine. If you have a few lying around, throw them away. We promise not to judge. The next time, you have to go somewhere, dress nicely. Since, you never know whom you may run into, maybe your future husband or wife.

Practice in Front of the Mirror

The first person to see your new and improved body language movements should be you. Every day, stand in front of the mirror and practice positioning your hands, leaning slightly forward, and learning to maintain eye contact. If you are brave enough, test your skills on your friend to evaluate your performance.

Overtime, you will get an idea on the amount of body signals you need to give to different people you meet.
