There is Always a Reason
Once upon a time, in a magnificent far away land, there lived a King. He was loving and kind. He had led his kingdom through some of the most difficult times with his bravery and his wisdom. While he could be given the sole credit for his strength, the same could not be said for his wisdom.
The King depended upon a wise old man who had played the role of his advisor as soon as he had clambered the throne of Kingship. Under the advice of the old man, the King had dealt with many conflicts and set-backs in his reign with ease.
Although, the wise old man had always had a point in everything he said, there was a particular remark that always caught the King by surprise. Whenever anything bad happened, the old man would say, “Everything happens for a reason!” He would not complain or condemn the incident, only state the fact that there is a reason behind the incident that had not yet revealed itself.
The King, although believed firmly in the sanity of the wise man, just couldn’t seem to wrap his head around this peculiar philosophy of his. What the King didn’t know was that he was soon about to!
One day, the King went on a hunting a trip with the wise man. During the trip, a terrible accident befell the King and he lost a finger in the accident. The King was in pain and miserable as he was he turned to the wise man and asked, “What do you think now? What do you have to say about this horrific accident? Why did this happen to me? I have served my kingdom and my people with so much love and kindness. Why should I deserve this fate?”
The wise man looked at the King with pity in his eyes but answered nevertheless, “Everything happens for a reason!”
The King felt furious when he heard those words. The King cried, “You disrespectful man! I put food on your table and you have no sympathy for me! Even in my most miserable moments, all you can tell me is that there is a reason behind this!”
The King, in his anger, commanded that the insolent old man be thrown into prison for his words.
While in prison, the guards empathized with the old man. However, the old man told them the same thing: everything happens for a reason!
A few days later, the King went on another hunting expedition, this time without the old man. Unfortunately, he got captured by a cannibal tribe. They caught the King to kill him in a sacrificial ritual to please their gods. However, when they examined their sacrifice, they realized that he was missing a finger. Due to the fear that their sacrifice will not be accepted by the gods because it was missing a piece, the cannibals let the King go!
In that moment, the King finally understood the words that the wise old man had said to him!
