You are Special, Don’t Let Anyone Tell You Otherwise

You are Special, Don’t Let Anyone Tell You Otherwise

You are Special, Don’t Let Anyone Tell You Otherwise

The society tells us that if we are a certain way, only then are we special, perfect, worthy, beautiful, and amazing. We base our worth on what people think about us, the way they treat us, and the way they see us. We criticize our self for not meeting the societal standards. Our self-esteem and self-confidence is shattered, and we start comparing it with other people’s worth in those aspects as well.

But is that all we are? Are we only beautiful if our skin is a certain shade? Are we only intelligent if our grade is A? Are we only successful if our job gives us a 6-figure pay? Are we only special if we act a certain way? I don’t think so. I think everyone is extraordinary in their own way. We all our incredible, beautiful, strong, kind, and awesome, and we should not let the society or anyone else tell us otherwise!

There are times that unfair criticism of people makes us question ourselves. Is there something wrong with me that they treated me that way? However, if you know how to deal with unfair criticism, you are less likely to take it personally and let it affect you because you have a control over your emotions and the way you feel. Here are a few simple ways to effectively deal with unfair criticism, so it does not affect your peace of mind.

It’s not about you

Rather than questioning yourself after others treat you badly, why not question their aim, motivation, and happiness level? We need to learn how to separate ourselves from the unfair criticism that is directed our way. This is not about who we are as humans, it is about the judgment others make on the basis of our behavior, actions, or appearance in a certain situation. It is relatively easier to let go and move on when the self and criticism are detached.

Don’t Let your Self-Esteem Take the Blow

We should not let the unfair criticism of people lower our confidence or self-worth. What people think of you represents their own shortcomings rather than who you are as a person. So rather than thinking negative about it continuously, you can try and incorporate positive and rational thinking patterns, to make yourself believe that your actions were justified.

Do not retaliate

Retaliation is a fight and flight response naturally built within us. We do not like people getting away with ruining our day. We prefer saying something back to make their day worse too. But what will be the difference between both the individuals then? So control your anger because no matter what, you cannot control the behaviors of others. What you can do is control your reaction towards them. As they say, “No one can make you feel bad about yourself without your consent.” So avoid such people who threaten to ruin your peace of mind.

Decide for yourself whose opinion matters and whose does not. If you know yourself well enough, then you will not give a second thought to what other people have to say. Just be yourself, and make wise choices!

We all make a beauty so wonderfully true.
We are special and different, and just the same, too!So whenever you look at your beautiful skin, from your wiggling toes to your giggling grin…Think how lucky you are that the skin you live in, so beautifully holds the “You” who’s within.”  ~  Michael Tyler, The Skin You Live In

You can celebrate the significant role your father has played in your upbringing by surprising him with an activity he loves to do. We have here for you several activities you can do with your father on Father’s day or any day of the year. Ideas to Celebrate Father’s Day:

Does your dad love to fish? If your dad is an outdoorsy type of guy, take him to the lake to fish. It will a great way to bond with your dad, as both son and father or daughter and father take the time out of their schedule to talk and fish.

2.     Take Your Dad Travelling

If your dad barely gets a vacation, as work occupies him, you need to tell him to take a few days, use their vacation days, or go with you on road trip on the next upcoming long weekend.

3.     Take Your Dad to a Cooking Class

Sign up for a cooking with your dad so both of you can cook up something tasty and appetizing. An alternate option to a cooking class is to cook dinner for your dad at home or cook food for the whole family at home. This will give mom a break!

If your dad is an art and museum buff, take him to an art gallery or a play.

5.     Take Your Dad to a Concert

6.     Take Your Dad to a Movie

With so many remakes of old classic movies coming up, you can treat your dad to one of those. Find out which movie your dad wants to see and take him there.

7.     Take Your Dad to a Car Show

Like most fathers, your dad might also be a car fanatic. If a car show is happening somewhere near you or is a few hours away from your location, make a road trip out of it.

If you are not sure what your dad wants to do on his special day, ask mom or ask your dad directly.

Things to pack when travelling to Europe in the summer

Things to pack when travelling to Europe in the summer

Things to pack when travelling to Europe in the summer

Traveling is a dream for many people. But when this dream comes true and you finally get a chance to pack your bags and fly, it is extremely necessary to organize a clear plan for the trip beforehand. To enjoy a trip to the amazing continent of Europe, it is important to be aware of and knowledgeable about the type of luggage suitable for your stay.

Ideally, make a list of the items to be packed so that you have to face no issue while traveling. Some of the items necessary for a trip to Europe in the summers are:

Clothing

When it comes to clothing, the best suited for summers in Europe are:

  • Pairs of jeans and Capri pants – Capri pants are also in fashion and very suitable for the summer weather.
  • Shorts – Shorts are increasingly popular in Europe and wearing them is ‘in’. So don’t forget to pack some with you!
  • T-shirts and polo’s – T-shirts that are vibrant in color, are ideal for sports and casual use.
  • Swimsuit – For the love of waters and beaches in Europe!
  • Good quality undergarments

Backpacks

Backpacks are the easiest way to carry a lot of items securely. They are very important for day long picnics and for fishing, hiking, and climbing excursions to various famous regions in Europe. Having bags, that can be carried on the back makes traveling quite convenient.

Compression sacks

They are generally heavy duty plastic bags, usually with a zipper for the purpose of loading and unloading. They help in compressing heavy clothing such as jackets and sweaters. All your heavier apparel can be placed in the compressor which is then sealed and put in the backpack – thus occupying a smaller space.

Packing cubes

Packing cubes are essential for people who consider themselves pros at packing. These help in dividing and organizing the stuff you plan to carry with you. They are also available in all shapes and sizes, and are suitable for arranging items from clothing to nail polishes!

Footwear

The ideal footwear for this trip includes:

  • Socks (cotton made)
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Easy to wear joggers
  • Waterproof shoes for traveling to especially snowy/rainy areas in Europe.

Accessories

Some of the required accessories for this trip are:

  1. Earplugs (if you plan to take multiple flights and road trips)
  2. Sunglasses (a must for summers!)
  3. Face towels
  4. Luggage locks: They are an utter necessity these days to avoid theft.
  5. Water bottle
  6. Wallet
  7. Earphones with a music player
  8. Books/reading material
  9. Umbrella
  10. Camera with sufficient storage for pictures
  11. Toiletry kit (including toothpaste, face wash, hand wash, soap)
  12. Cosmetics and items for grooming and personal hygiene
  13. Medicines in case of emergency
  14. Smartphone and laptop
  15. Plug adapter (the sockets in UK and Europe are different from other countries, hence the need for plug adapters).

These are some of the many items required for a convenient travel to Europe. For a satisfying trip abroad, you need to be sure of the minute details and plan accordingly.

The 3 Challenges That You Have To Face When You Stand Alone

The 3 Challenges That You Have To Face When You Stand Alone

The 3 Challenges That You Have To Face When You Stand Alone

Standing alone for something that you believe in is not easy. In most of the cases, you will be left vulnerable. You might make mistakes and not everyone will agree with the decisions that you make or your stance. The challenges are hefty but you are the one to decide whether standing for something, be it alone, is worth it or not. Here are some of the challenges that people who have to stand alone face:

1.     You Face Ridicule And Criticism

Ridicule and criticism can come from people due to many reasons. It is either that they are jealous of the stance that you have taken, they do not believe in the cause that you are fighting for, or that they think that you do not have what it takes to stand alone. People who criticize and ridicule often do so when they themselves are not capable of standing alone or they criticize just for the sake of criticizing. In some of the cases, criticism and ridicule can cause major stress to the person standing alone.

2.     The People Closest To You Stop Believing In You

Often times, when you stand alone for something, the people who were once close to you will distance themselves from you because they think that you will fail. And since most people are insecure themselves, they would not want to associate with a failure. However, one can only tell who their real friends are at a time when they are struggling. People who leave you when you need them the most were never your friends to begin with, and so you can automatically filter them out.

3.     You May Start Questioning Your Decision

When people have to stand alone for something, they might have little to no support, especially in the beginning when they are just starting out. As human beings, we often become isolated and vulnerable in such situations and start questioning whether we will even succeed with the path that we have taken or not. However, this vulnerability is normal, and it is up to you to decide whether you want to succumb to this or not.

As you can see, there are many challenges that people have to face when they decide on standing alone. However, when you take up a cause, you need to decide whether standing alone for it is worth it or not. If it is worth it, then you cannot let people bully you into stepping down, because if you do, then you were never strong enough for it to begin with.

Additionally, people also need to remember that it takes a lot of courage to stand alone, and therefore people who do stand alone for something should be given their due respect, even if others do not believe in the cause that they are standing up for. Once human beings learn to respect one another, the world will be a much better place.

“Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.” ~ Seneca

The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.” ~ Paulo Coelho

“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.” ~ Randy Pausch

How To Defend Yourself: 5 Moves You Must Master

How To Defend Yourself: 5 Moves You Must Master

How To Defend Yourself: 5 Moves You Must Master

Kung fu is something that everyone wishes to learn. After all, everyone would like to throw in moves like Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris. However, not many of us have the time on our hands to attend training sessions. This blog will tell you about 5 simple techniques that you can learn and use when faced with a fight or a difficult situation.

1.     Accept Death In Order To Survive

Here’s something that will be extremely useful for you at the time that you are getting attacked. You need to accept the possibility of dying. When you accept that possibility, only then will you be free to make wiser decisions during such a situation. If you do not accept such a possibility in your head, then you will use all of your energy into panicking for your life and nothing else.

2.     Attack When Being Attacked

When someone attacks you, your first instinct will be to run away. However, this will only come in handy when the attacker is at a considerable distance from you. Instead of running, you should advance. This is because your attacker will likely feel superior to you if they feel that you are scared of them. When you confront them however, you will most likely surprise them and will be able to do more damage than expected.

3.     Make Use Of Your Head

A human skull can be quite powerful and it can be used as defense. It is a lot better for you to be bashing your head into the nose of an opponent once as opposed to punching it several times. Since the skull is hard and easy to move, you can cause a significant amount of damage to your opponent without putting in that much effort. Headbutts are especially great when an attacker grabs hold of you from behind. There is no point in attacking them with your elbows. In fact, it will waste your energy as well as time.

4.     Everything Can Be Used As A Weapon

Pepper sprays, knives, and guns are not the only weapons that you have available to you. In fact, you can use anything that is shaper and harder than your fingers and knuckles. This is why you should always carry something that you can use as a weapon such as a pen or an umbrella. Stones from the ground can always be useful. One thing to remember is that pointy objects need to be stabbed inside the soft tissue whereas hard objects need to be smashed against the bone.

5.     Aim For The Weak Spots

Any attacker will most likely have weak spots that you can attack, no matter how tough they seem. The following body parts can be aimed at: nose, eyes, throat, groin, kneecaps, and ears.

These tricks are great at helping you overcome such situations. Remember not to think of yourself as any less than the attacker, and you are bound to show them how well you can fight them off.

Formula To Keep Your Mr. Right With You

Formula To Keep Your Mr. Right With You

Formula To Keep Your Mr. Right With You

Many relationship experts have stated that communication is really important to maintaining successful marriages. However, apart from communication, it is also important to maintain the quality of that communication. For instance, saying things like ‘pay the bills’, ‘take care of the kids’, or ‘take the trash out’ will not be taken so positively by your significant other. If you want to make your husband feel good and worthy, then there are certain phrases that you can use such as:

Thank You

Showing appreciation or gratitude for the things that your husband does for you and the family on a daily basis is a great place to start. You should thank him for showing his support, being there when you needed him the most, and taking care of the house and children when you were tired.

I Love When You…

Positive feedback is always really important. You can give him this positive feedback for the little things that he does that you admire and love about him a lot. For instance, it could be the way he helps at home or shows you his affection. Many husbands also love putting their children to bed and reading to them.

Let’s Spend Some Time Together

Most men would love to spend some alone time with their wives. This does not have to be intimate time. Your alone time could be spent doing anything that you enjoy doing together, from watching a movie to cooking. Spending time with your husband shows him that he is important to you and that you like doing things with him.

You Look So Handsome

While you husband may not look like a celebrity or a professional athlete, it does not cost a lot to compliment him, especially when he goes out of his way to do something that makes you happy. For instance, he might dress up for a date with you that he’d rather just go in his shorts or he might start exercising to get into better shape for you. When you compliment him, you will boost his confidence and he will continue doing these things for you.

I Love Your Smile

When you compliment his smile, it means that you want to see him smiling more. And more smiling automatically leads to more happiness.

Yes

You should consider saying yes on instances where you’d rather say no. A great instance is when your husband wants to invite his friends over. When you are selfless, your husband will learn to appreciate and love you more. It also means that you consider his needs important too.

What you say and how you say it can have a big impact on the relationship that you develop with your husband. Such phrases as identified above will help you in treating your husband the way he wants to be treated and making him feel much appreciated. This will help in developing your love further with him and he will end up loving the time that he gets to spend with you.

“Let us find someone who will never break our heart, who will always be there for us, who will make us happy all the time, who will respect, love and cherish us in everything, and we can’t go far in the search because such personality is within us, not in the world we are living now!” ~ Michael Bassey Johnson

“It’s easy to forget all of the bad memories once you’ve found Mr. Right.” Her eyes got that look, and her smile faltered. I cringed. She was thinking of him again. “Then, when you lose him, you still remember the good. And you look for it everywhere, but you can’t find it.” ~ Amy Noelle

“Lori’s biggest quest in life was to find Mr. Right Now, not to be confused with Mr. Right.” ~ Lindsay Chamberlin

“If a quote of two individuals looks identical or almost similar to make it difficult to know as who said it first to be Mr. Right, then it is perhaps sensible to give credit for the same to one who travels in life light by choice and not compulsions than other who is too eager to board on a success flight.” ~ Anuj Somany

Therapy: A Powerful Tool To Heal

Therapy: A Powerful Tool To Heal

Therapy: A Powerful Tool To Heal

No matter what you are struggling with, seeking therapy can be a great way to heal yourself. Live can be really difficult sometimes. For instance, being in an accident or having to face the death of a relative that a person was really close to can be really hard for people, and most do not easily overcome such tragedies, especially on their own. When left untreated, such incidents can lead to numbness, anxiety, and severe depression.

While some people may know the cause behind their uneasiness or depression, there are others who have no clue as to why they have such a terrible perspective towards life. Therapy: A Powerful Tool To Heal can help solve all such identified and unidentified struggles that people might be facing.

The Benefits Of Therapy

There has been research, which shows that verbally communicating your feelings to another person can relieve you in many ways. Therapists are educated individuals who have the ability to understand your thought processes, behaviors, and moods. They get an individual to talk by asking them different questions so that they can understand the basic reason as to why you are suffering mentally. In essence, they extract your core problem and try to fix you with it. This, coupled with the basic human need to share their feelings helps therapists fix their mental state.

The best part about therapy is that it can help an individual with any problem, no matter how major or minor. Many times, an individual is simply facing a mental block due to which they are unable to achieve certain goals in life. Therapy also helps in removing those mental blocks so that you can lead your life freely and without any difficulty.

Additionally, therapy can help you figure out your purpose in life. Once you have identified your purpose, you are bound to be happier and heal automatically.

Most people think that therapy is only for people who are facing some sort of mental illness. However, this is not the case. Therapy can benefit just anything and anyone, no matter what their mental condition is like. Like previously mentioned, talking about ones feelings and emotions can benefit them greatly, and an even greater benefit is obtained if someone is there to give valuable pieces of advice. Seeking therapy never hurts. It only fixes your issues in a way that will benefit you greatly in the long run.

“I’m fine. Well, I’m not fine – I’m here.”

“Writing is a form of therapy; sometimes I wonder how all those who do not write, compose, or paint can manage to escape the madness, melancholia, the panic and fear which is inherent in a human situation.” ~ Graham Greene

“Before you can live a part of you has to die. You have to let go of what could have been, how you should have acted and what you wish you would have said differently. You have to accept that you can’t change the past experiences, opinions of others at that moment in time or outcomes from their choices or yours. When you finally recognize that truth then you will understand the true meaning of forgiveness of yourself and others. From this point you will finally be free.” ~ Shannon L. Alder

“Some seek the comfort of their therapist’s office, other head to the corner pub and dive into a pint, but I chose running as my therapy.” ~ Dean Karnazes

Tips to Walk Away from a Fight

Tips to Walk Away from a Fight

Tips to Walk Away from a Fight

The world today is much different from the world of yesterday. It is plagued with violence with people bullying others mercilessly, killing them if they provoke them. However, the location for violent outbursts is not just the school or the house, as it can happen almost anywhere.

The key for individuals suffering the taunts of a person prone to violence is to remain his/her calm. They need to keep the individual from lashing out at them violently is by doing the following things to walk away from it:

Trick #1:  Do Not Care

If someone approaches you to start up a fight, let him/her shout at you. They want to aggravate you so you will raise your hand or your voice, giving them a chance to strike you violently. If a person with a destructive personality comes up to you, you need to remain your cool. Let them talk while you remain unresponsiveness.

Trick #2:  Travel with a Group

A bully will come up to you if he/she spots you walking alone in the streets. If you walk with a huge group of people, they will unlikely follow you. Try to take with you your biggest and most muscular friends with tattoos and an attitude so others know not to approach you, as your entire group will have your back.

Trick #3:  Pretend You Have Ties with the Local Police

Now, this may or may not work, as largely depends on how bold and fearless your bullies are. If you want to use this trick, here is what you will have to do—take out your cell phone, pretend to dial numbers, and with confidence, tell them if they do not back away; they will have the entire police squad out hunting for them.

Trick #4:  Have a Can of Tear Gas

If the bullies weapon is their fist, you weapon is a can of tear gas. If you encounter someone who wants to pick on you for no reason, smile, and take out your can of tear gas. Next thing you know, they will be the ones running away crying.

Trick #5:  Go to a Crowded Area

Bullies will not lift a finger on someone who is amongst several people as they would easily if someone was alone. If you suspect the bully to use more than his/her words, quickly move towards a crowded area.

Trick #6:  Admit You Are the Worst

Remember, no reaction is the best reaction! If the bully is threatening you or saying something awful about you, nod your head and agree. When you agree with all of their statements about you, they might soften and explain the reason why they wanted to pick a fight with you or perhaps, just leave you alone.

Have you encountered a bully before? Do you know any tricks our readers can use to combat bullies? You can tell us about your or someone’s else experience with a bully and how it was handled by commenting below.

5 Ways To Tune Out Work Stress

5 Ways To Tune Out Work Stress

5 Ways To Tune Out Work Stress

Getting a lot of stress at work? Trust me, you are not the only one. More and more people become stressed out at work on a daily basis, and while this stress is becoming common, it is not healthy at all. Stress can impact your health in a negative manner and cause you to develop a lot of conditions that you would have otherwise not gotten. However, the good thing is that you can manage and tune out work stress by focusing on a few simple steps with due diligence. The steps are as follows:

1.     Unplug After A Long Day

Media such as TV, smartphone usage, and the internet is one of the biggest contributors to stress. Therefore, it is important that you reduce the time that you spend on these media channels by a significant amount. You can do this by making sure that you do not use these avenues right after work and when you do use them, then you strictly keep a check on how much time you are spending on these channels. You can also consider doing a full media cleanse over the weekend where you stay away from it at all costs.

2.     Eat Stress Reducing Foods

There are certain foods that help in reducing stress levels and you can consider carrying them with you at work. These include dark chocolate, citrus fruits, and omega 3 fatty acids.

3.     Exercise

Exercise is a great way to help prevent or reduce your stress levels. The best part is that there are many types of high and low energy exercises that you can easily get involved in, either before or after work. Some examples include running, yoga, swimming, Pilates, Tai Chi, spinning, and dancing.

4.     Give Sufficient Time To Sleep

Lack of adequate sleep results in heart problems, lowered immunity, as well as feelings of depression and anxiety. Try sleeping as early as possible and make sure to take power naps during the day in case you did not get sufficient sleep. Remember that you do not need caffeine in the afternoons if you have had coffee in the morning. Reducing your amount of caffeine will help you sleep better at night. Additionally, limit you overall exposure to social media and TV to achieve better sleep.

5.     Seek Help

If you are being overwhelmed with work stress and are unable to manage it, then there is nothing wrong with asking for help. You can talk to your colleagues, your family, or even a support group. Since humans are social beings, it is better to share your feelings instead of keeping them hidden deep within you. Sharing alone will help relieve a lot of stress and make you feel better.

These are great ways for reducing stress, and following them will help you become a lot more productive. Note that if a majority of your work stress is caused by a negative boss or employee, then you need to handle the situation in a slightly different manner.

“You are not stress...you are experiencing stress. You are not anxiety...you are experiencing anxiety. You are not fear...you are experiencing fear. You can recognize the fact that you are not your emotions and simply accept the experience of that emotion and move right through it.” ~ Mike Basevic

A Selection of Stress Quotes

“It is fine to be committed to work, but our minds need time to recover and our bodies need to move.” ~ Annika Sorensen

“A mind that is racing over worries about the future or recycling resentments from the past is ill equipped to handle the challenges of the moment. By slowing down, we can train the mind to focus completely in the present. Then we will find that we can function well whatever the difficulties. That is what it means to be stress-proof: not avoiding stress but being at our best under pressure, calm, cool, and creative in the midst of the storm.” ~ Eknath Easwaran

“By simply braking down the task into more manageable pieces much can be accomplished in a year.” ~ Annika Sorensen

“We must dare to be true to ourselves – to see ourselves as we really are.” ~ Annika Sorensen

“Great leaders catch and correct problems while they’re still small and able to be managed without a lot of hassle. If ignored too long, small problems will morph into much bigger issues that will require more time and effort and at a high cost, causing a great deal of disruption and stress.” ~ Beth Ramsay

“You are not stress…you are experiencing stress. You are not anxiety…you are experiencing anxiety. You are not fear…you are experiencing fear. You can recognize the fact that you are not your emotions and simply accept the experience of that emotion and move right through it.” ~ Mike Basevic
