Life Is Not a Competition

Life Is Not a Competition Can you name the happiest man on earth? What do you think he owns? You probably think about the luxuries in life. He may be a billionaire with a huge mansion and a fleet of cars. Or you think about a celebrity who is almost as rich and oh-so-famous! Then as kids, we believed that we’d be happy when we came first in class or won a race or got praised in front of everyone. It was all about being the ‘best’ and owning the fanciest, flashiest ‘stuff’. It seems that we have been ingrained with a competitive mindset. Darwin speaks of the ‘survival of the fittest’, doesn’t he? It is our natural instinct to cutthroats and then move forward. This is probably why we have play life like a game. This was the scenario when I entered the halls of my alma mater. The>>>

It’s Never Too Late to Live Your Life

It’s Never Too Late to Live Your Life Once upon a time, a man was wandering in a clear, grey forest. He seemed to be lost, searching for something. However, before he could find what he had been looking for, he came across a tiger. The tiger chased the man to the edge of the cliff and the man tipped over. Luckily, he grabbed a vine half way down the fall. He was momentarily safe. Although, when he looked up at the cliff, he didn’t quite feel that way. The tiger stood, bare tooth and gnawing away at the edge in the hopes of catching the man waiting to devour his own hunger. The man gulped down and decided to find a way to get himself out of this predicament by looking for a way further down. Perhaps, he could make his way back to home from somewhere on the>>>

Do Not Judge Life by a Single Bad Season

Do Not Judge Life by a Single Bad Season Imagine driving on a long and empty road. You have everything under control. Your car rockets away at a sharp speed. You feel as if nothing can ever go wrong here. Suddenly, your tire bumps into the protruded edge of a speed-breaker and you end up with a flat tire. At that moment, you realize how out of control everything is. You learn in that moment that life is unpredictable. It is in that moment that you understand that you never actually had any control in your life. However, the moment your tire goes out but your car manages to maintain balance and you manage to escape an accident unscathed, you learn something else too. Life is not always bad, it is also good. Life also shows you mercy. Although, your car suffered a loss, you didn’t! Life may seem unfortunate and>>>

The Other Side – Aesop’s Fable of Hares and the Frogs

The Other Side – Aesop’s Fable of Hares and the Frogs Once upon a time, a drove of hares lived in a valley. Being timid by nature, they were spending their lives in misery. Always afraid of the unforeseen predators, they were living in gloom and despair. One day they decided to call a council. Tired of living a life of fear, a hare exclaimed, “My dear fellow brothers, do you think this is a life worth living? We are constantly on the run; we never get a moment of peace. I am tired of being afraid all the time. I cannot keep living like this.” Another hare seconds, “We spend days hiding away from the predators and nights are no better, we cannot eat in comfort and sleep in the fear of death; a rustling of leaves make us run for the hills. Our lives are truly miserable. It>>>

Life: A Do-it-Yourself Project

Life: A Do-it-Yourself Project William Henley cannot have worded it better when he said, “I am the master of my fate and the captain of my soul.” If you want to live your life a certain way, you will have to proactively work for it. Instead of mulling over your dissatisfactory life, consciously build the life you want to live :- Life: A Do-it-Yourself Project. It is strange to think that sometimes we simply fail to realize that we are the authors of life and that we are continuously writing our story through our actions. The well-known story of the old carpenter is an example of how we build our lives without realizing; consequently, without putting in the much-needed effort. The story talks about an elderly carpenter who was ready to retire. The contractor was sorry to see his hardworking worker depart and asked the carpenter to design one last>>>

Mothers Day….. Empty Chair

Mothers Day….. Empty Chair A woman’s daughter had asked the local minister to come and pray with her mother. When the minister arrived, he found the woman lying in bed with her head propped up on two pillows. An empty chair sat beside her bed. The minister assumed that the woman had been informed of his visit. ‘I guess you were expecting me, he said. ‘No, who are you?’ said the mother. The minister told her his name and then remarked, ‘I saw the empty chair and I figured you  knew I was going to show up.’ ‘Oh yeah, the chair,’ said the bedridden woman.. ‘Would you mind closing the door?’ Puzzled, the minister shut the door. ‘I have never told anyone this, not even my daughter,’ said the woman. ‘But all of my life I have never known how to pray.
