Mothers Day….. Empty Chair

"God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers." ~ Jewish proverb

Mothers Day….. Empty Chair

A woman’s daughter had asked the local minister to come and pray with her mother.

When the minister arrived, he found the woman lying in bed with her head propped up on two pillows. An empty chair sat beside her bed.

The minister assumed that the woman had been informed of his visit.

‘I guess you were expecting me, he said.

‘No, who are you?’ said the mother.

The minister told her his name and then remarked, ‘I saw the empty

chair and I figured you  knew I was going to show up.’

‘Oh yeah, the chair,’ said the bedridden woman..

‘Would you mind closing the door?’ Puzzled, the minister shut the door.

‘I have never told anyone this, not even my daughter,’ said the

woman. ‘But all of my life I have never known how to pray.

At church I used to hear the pastor talk about prayer, but it went right over my

head.’ I abandoned any attempt at prayer,’ the woman continued, ‘until

one day four years ago; my best friend said to me,

‘Betty, prayer is just a simple matter of having a conversation with Jesus.

Here is what I suggest.

‘Sit down in a chair; place an empty chair in front of you, and in faith see Jesus on the chair.

It’s not spooky because he promised, ‘I will be with you always’. ‘Then just speak to him in the same way you’re doing with me right now.’ ‘So, I tried it and I’ve liked it so much that I do it a couple of hours every day..

An empty chair sat beside her bed. 'I guess you were expecting me, he said.

I’m careful though. If my daughter saw me talking to an empty chair, she’d either have a nervous breakdown or send me off to the funny farm.’

The minister was deeply moved by the story and encouraged the

woman to continue on the journey. Then he prayed with her, anointed her with oil, and returned to the church.

Two nights later the daughter called to tell the minister that her

mother had died that afternoon. Did she die in peace?’ he asked.

‘Yes, when I left the house about two o’clock, she called me over

to her bedside, told me she loved me and kissed me on the cheek. When I

got back from the store an hour later, I found her. But there was something

strange about her death.

Apparently, just before Mother died, She leaned over and rested her head on the chair beside the bed.. What do you make of that?’

The minister wiped a tear from his eye and said,  ‘I wish we could all go like that.’

I asked God for a friend, He gave me all of YOU…

If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

Happy moments, praise God.

Difficult moments, seek God.

Quiet moments, worship God

Painful moments, trust God….

Every moment, thank God.

Why Belief in God is the Tonic to All Pains

Why Belief in God is the Tonic to All Pains

Why Belief in God is the Tonic to All Pains

It was way back in time when Karl Marx stated that, “religion is the opiate of the people”. As powerful as the statement sounds, this is not just said in a metaphysical sense, but literal endurance. The interesting thing to note is that science has been able to prove through tests and studies that people who believe in God find it more bearable to endure pains of higher levels. Why? Because they are able to get over the idea of difficulty when they are focusing on the presence and power of God!

Here is what was discovered in an experiment. Oxford University researchers conducted an experiment in which 12 practicing Roman Catholics and 12 atheists were subjected electrical shocks for 12 seconds while looking at the picture of Virgin Mary. The whole time, subjects of the experiment were brain scanned and readings showed that Catholics were able to have high levels of tolerance as compared to non-believing participants. The level of pain was reduced by 12% for the believers as they were able to block out the pain due to their faith and belief system.

Virgin Mary with Blue Veil Praying

Virgin Mary with Blue Veil Praying

When asked about the experience, the believers explained that since they were looking at the picture of Virgin Mary they felt a sense of peace, safety, and calm even though they were in pain. Non-believers on the other hand experienced no such things when they received shocks while looking at the picture. This clearly shows that faith takes you to another level, another dimension, where people are able to let go of their fear and anxieties even when the situation seems helpless or hopeless.

This is not the first time that it has been discovered that believing people who are experiencing physical pain find it much more in their power to not only endure but to overcome that pain through the power of their faith. Studies show that cancer patients who have faith are more likely to fight with the disease and have high spirits until the end, even if the disease does end their life. Likewise, the caretakers of cancer patient are quicker to recover from the shock of their loved ones demise because they believe in God and His love for His creation. They understand that the patient is now in a better place and the loved ones will be seeing them in the afterlife.

This clearly depicts that belief in God gives a kind of assurance to the believer that all is not lost and that there is a higher entity looking out for them. It is this faith that allows people to fight for their lives and their causes, the acceptance that God will look out for them no matter what. This is the reason why religious people seem more comfortable and peaceful about their lives because they know that with prayers miracles do happen. Hence the saying that belief in God is the tonic to all kinds of pains of the world.

Using Your Faith as a Springboard to Success

Using Your Faith as a Springboard to Success

Using Your Faith as a Springboard to Success

Faith may not be the first thing that comes to mind when talking about success, but when you actually look at the concept you realize that it is the basis for all things necessary for success. The question that comes here is this, what is faith and why it is even necessary? In terms of religion, faith is a belief in the existence of God and all that He has said in His scripture. It is this belief, the sense of higher existence and someone who is there to look out for you, that allows people with faith to be more successful then ones who don’t believe in the presence of God.

But what has faith got to do with success? Doesn’t success come with hard work, dedication, passion and trail? It does, but where would you find the inspiration to work, the motivation to continue and the courage to get back from failure if not from faith? Faith allows you to accept that no matter what happens, it will turn out to be for the best, even if you do not realize that at the current moment. As per the Psalm, “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart”. (37:4)

Using Your Faith as a Springboard to Success

The idea that there is someone out there who has your back is perhaps the most comforting thoughts anyone can ever have. Imagine being at a dead end and not knowing what to do. Imagine that you have tried everything but things are not working out in your favor and success seems to be out of hand even though it felt like a victory before. What do you do? If you are devoid of faith and belief, then you get depressed, lose hope and think that there is simply nothing that can be done. If on the other hand, you are of the faithful, you will be comforted by the fact that the power of prayer is still alive. You can beg the Lord for mercy, pray to him for help and be relieved by the thought that “God works in mysterious ways” and will find a way out for you. The proverb says “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans”. (16:3)

Who is Jesus to You? from TheDoorTV on Vimeo.

This is the difference between the power of faith and having no faith at all. Another thing about faith is that unlike ones who don’t believe in anything, faith lets you make jumps and leaps where others may hesitate. You realize that to be successful, you will need to make certain decisions that don’t seem as conclusive as you would like, you will need to make sacrifices and accept minor defeats. If you have faith you will know that things happen for a reason and even if a small setback comes, the larger picture is going to be bright. You start believing the notion that nothing is impossible so long as you are willing to give it your best.

Hence, faith gives you courage, determination and the will to fight the odds. Faith is what keeps you striving for success even when success seems unattainable.

The Benefits Of Sharing Your Feelings Instead Of Keeping Them Hidden Inside You

The Benefits Of Sharing Your Feelings Instead Of Keeping Them Hidden Inside You

The Benefits Of Sharing Your Feelings Instead Of Keeping Them Hidden Inside You

Some people resort to hiding their feelings instead of sharing them with other people. While such a stance may be good in some of the instances, keeping your feelings and emotions bottled up will not always lead to a good conclusion. You need to be expressive about your feelings and emotions so that those who care about you can help you through difficult times and assist you in figuring out the exact reasons for the mental turmoil.

Put Your Focus On The Feelings

In some of the instances, we cannot indicate how exactly we are feeling. And when we, ourselves, cannot pinpoint the emotions that we are feeling, we will not be able to talk about them. The best approach in this case is to figure out or try to make sense of your feelings before you share them with other people. For instance, if you are angry or sad, you need to be aware of the exact reasons for being in that state before talking about this with someone.

Benefits Of Talking About Your Feelings

How you feel in the inside is always extremely important. If what you are feeling is worry or sadness, you need to let that sadness or worry out instead of keeping it bottled up inside. The more you are going to bottle your feelings and emotions inside, the more likely you will explode later on. And during that process, you might even become sick.

When you start talking about your feelings with someone who shows interest and cares about your well being, you automatically start feeling a lot better. Your problems will not disappear magically. You need to take proper steps to ensure that you find a proper solution to whatever is bothering you.

Talking about your feelings allows you to develop a channel of release where an individual can focus on bettering their inner state and achieving a complete peace of mind. Such a release can help to establish positivity in one’s life and better health in turn.

Talking about your feelings and emotions is easy once you are aware of your own state of mind and know who the best person to talk to is. This way, you will be able to explain to them whatever is going on with you in a better manner and make sure that you release all your pent up energy of feelings and emotions in a highly positive manner.

Some people tend to stay more secretive than others, and those people who are shy about sharing how they are feeling should be encouraged to do so.

A Selection of Feeling Quotes

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart” ~ Helen Keller

“It’s often just enough to be with someone. I don’t need to touch them. Not even talk. A feeling passes between you both. You’re not alone.” ~ Marilyn Monroe

“Over the years, I have come to realize that the greatest trap in our life is not success, popularity, or power, but self-rejection. Success, popularity, and power can indeed present a great temptation, but their seductive quality often comes from the way they are part of the much larger temptation to self-rejection. When we have come to believe in the voices that call us worthless and unlovable, then success, popularity, and power are easily perceived as attractive solutions. The real trap, however, is self-rejection. As soon as someone accuses me or criticizes me, as soon as I am rejected, left alone, or abandoned, I find myself thinking, “Well, that proves once again that I am a nobody.” … [My dark side says,] I am no good… I deserve to be pushed aside, forgotten, rejected, and abandoned. Self-rejection is the greatest enemy of the spiritual life because it contradicts the sacred voice that calls us the “Beloved.” Being the Beloved constitutes the core truth of our existence.” ~ Henri J.M. Nouwen

The Benefits Of Prayers And Having Faith

The Benefits Of Prayers And Having Faith

The Benefits Of Prayers And Having Faith

For many people, there is immense power in prayers and having faith. And while some people turn to the ever expensive drugs to help them cope with stress, anxiety, and depression, there are others who will pray and have faith that everything will turn out for the better. Here are a few reasons why prayers and having faith is important to some people:

1.     It Helps Reduce Stress

Having faith and complete trust in God helps in lowering stress levels in daily lives. This is because an individual knows that there is a higher power that they can completely rely on for all their difficult situations. When the stress levels are reduced, the quality of life is automatically improved drastically.

2.     It Helps In Giving A Sense Of Purpose

Spirituality and faith are important because it helps in providing a sense of purpose to an individual that they might otherwise not have. Having faith is also essential to making sure that that an individual remains well connected with themselves and in more control of the lives that they are living.

3.     It Helps In Making Stronger Connections With People

Having faith allows you to connect on a deeper level with other people who also have faith. And it is human nature to want to find others that they can talk to and open up about their feelings and emotions. This also helps in achieving inner peace and a sense of comfort.

4.     It Helps In Improving Your Overall Health

Another great benefit that having faith provides is the power to improve your overall health. This is because prayers and having faith have a huge impact on an individual’s mental and physical health. prayers and faith allow for a certain level of comfort that God is there to ensure their well being and keep them safe from harm.

For many people, prayers are a way of communicating with God and sharing their innermost feelings and desires with Him. It is a way for them to lower their inner burden, to ask for forgiveness when needed, and to know for a fact that there will always be someone watching out for them and making sure that they are fine and healthy. But most importantly, prayers help in ensuring that a person is never alone and there is always a higher power by their side to help them get through the pains and discomforts of this worldly life.

Moral Lessons the Cartoon Tom and Jerry Teach Us

Moral Lessons the Cartoon Tom and Jerry Teach Us

Moral Lessons the Cartoon Tom and Jerry Teach Us

Tom and Jerry, the fights, the chases, and the friendship neither one was willing to admit. Our two favorite childhood characters amused us in each and every episode, made us laugh, and carved a special spot for themselves in our childhood memories. Even today, children watch Tom and Jerry with the same enthusiasm as we did when we were their age.

We bet that as adults you still find yourself watching Tom and Jerry with kids or without them. For some reason, Tom and Jerry is a cartoon whose lifespan has surpassed decades. No matter what new cartoon comes along, it will never take the place of Tom and Jerry. For the simple fact, the cartoon teaches us moral lessons. What type of moral lessons is what we are going to take a look at:

1.     Never Give Up

When Tom is trying to catch Jerry, but fails at every turn, he does not give up. In each episode, the poor cat is blown up, ravaged by Spike the dog, caught in one of his own traps, and many more stunts pulled by Jerry. You would think that by now, the poor car would have given up already, but no because Tom never gives up!

2.     Size Does Not Equal Courage

Tom is a cat and for him, catching a tiny animal should come secondhand. Jerry always manages to outwit at every turn, always turning the tables on him. Courageous Jerry does not let his size come in the way of stealing cheese from the fridge or the mousetrap and he even comes to the rescue of other animals such as the suicidal duckling who thought he was ugly and the goldfish swimming in the fish bowl.

3.     Always Have Ideas

Every episode introduces us to a bunch of new ideas both have concocted. Tom brainstorms ideas to catch the delicious meal in a tiny package while Jerry’s ideas are how to get what it wants.

4.     Work Together

Do you recall the episode where the useless, no good and chatty babysitter cared less for watching the baby and more for talking on the phone? Well, during that time, Tom and Jerry worked together to prevent the baby from getting into trouble. The enemies had joined forced several times to achieve a common goal.

5.     Do Not Believe People Easily

In some episodes, Tom has pretended to be on Jerry’s side, but his intentions were cruel. Tom’s true intentions were to eat Jerry, and not be friends with him. We mean a cat and mouse friends…not possible. In another episode, Tom did the same with a duckling who thought Tom was his mother, ignoring Jerry’s efforts to tell him otherwise. However, the ending of that episode was totally surprising as Tom realized his love for the duckling and began to swim with him in the lake much to Jerry’s astonishment.

If you did not feel like watching Tom and Jerry before, we bet you do now. If you do intend to watch it, look for the moral lessons in each episode.

Real Life Stories about Heroic Disabled Pets

German Shepherd Dog in wheelchair ready to play ball

Real Life Stories about Heroic Disabled Pets

You have probably seen or heard a story of an owner leaving their pet at an animal shelter because they could no longer care for it because it was disabled. Don’t you think they deserve a happy life as well? Don’t you think they deserve to be surrounded by a family that loves them unconditionally? They do, but they are not as lucky as perfectly healthy pets. When their disability becomes too much for an owner to bear, they send them off to a shelter.

Most even get put down because the shelter needs to make space for the other animals. They are not adopted, they do not get a loving home—they get death. To encourage you not to buy from pet shops, but to adopt disabled pets instead, here are real life stories of disabled pets:

1.     Blind Cats and Dogs

You might not know straightway that you bought a puppy or a kitten that cannot see. Later on, you find out the reason your pet has been knocking over things. What do you do? You take them to a vet, care for them, and love them anyways. With time, your blind pet will learn to accommodate to its surroundings. You can help them adjust to their disability by not moving the furniture and padding any sharp edges that could pose as a danger to them.

The Story

Samuri, a blind dog, came to her owner’s aid when she collapsed because she had a stroke. Her dog dashed outside to alert a neighbor as to what had happened. If it were not for Samurai, the owner would not be alive today to tell the tale of her heroic blind dog.

2.     Deaf Dogs and Cats

Cats and dogs have supersonic hearing, meaning when they hear a pin drop or a rustle in the bushes, their ears stand up automatically sensing the direction the noise came from. When they lose their hearing and become deaf, it is devastating. Knowing that, they can learn to adapt to their environments, as their others senses become heightened. Deaf pets are an expert at reading body language and most can read the lips of their owner.

The Story

Bosco, a deaf dog, discovered that his owner had passed out. Bosco ran upstairs to get her roommate who then called the paramedics. Before, they did not think Bosco could serve as a good guard dog because of his disability, but they realized that he could. This is mainly because his bark is incredibly loud, as he cannot sense the rise in the level of his voice.

3.     Three-Legged Cats and Dogs

A sense of sadness might come over you when you see a three-legged dog or cat, but you should not be overcome with emotions. A three-legged cat or dog can do almost everything a four-legged cat and dog can do.

The Story

Maty is a three-legged dog that won awards and acclaim for displaying its athletic ability at competitions. Maty jumped over obstacles with one hind leg. Now, that is incredible. When Maty is not jumping obstacles, the dog is caring for abandoned kittens.

Give a home to a disabled or abandoned pet and they will show you how thankful they are for your kindness.

5 Ways To Build Your Creative Confidence

There is a difference between being creative and being clever. A clever student can grasp things easily and apply them. They are seen whenever results are out for the top in their class. Creative students may not be atop in their classes but can do things in extra ordinary way. They always find a new simpler way of doing things. Then there are students who do not know where they belong. They may not be clever but in a way creative yet cannot believe in themselves that they are. They always assume that their work is not good enough to be accepted as creativity. Whereas they can produce something big, they need that reassurance from their hearts to compel them to do and present their projects. If you fall under this category, the following points might help you build yours!

  • isolate the problem

Look for that one thing that makes you feel low or lose confidence in yourself. Once you get it, look into the contributing factors and find out what causes them. If possible, tell someone close or someone you trust about it. This will help you to be relieved.

  • explore possible solutions

Try to cut the causes of the problems. Where it is not possible, improving on them can help a great deal. Get to find out the positive things that will outweigh your negative side. And if you cannot rid it, look for better ways to live with it in a way that it can’t affect your confidence.

  • believe in yourself

Encourage yourself that you can do it. Rule out any negative emotions coming your way. Surround yourself with friends that believe in you and congratulate whenever you achieve something. Set a goal, work towards it. Should you achieve it reward yourself. Do not cease to remind yourself of the many talents and abilities you possess.

  • practice

Group all those projects that you are not confident about. Do and redo them until you get positive comments from your teacher/mentor. Ask assistance from those who know how to do them smartly. Try to emulate how they do it after some time you will have mastered the skill and gained more confidence.

  • stay positive

Stay cheerful and smile always. Take compliments even if you feel you don’t deserve them. Encourage others too who have the same problem as you. Above all, shun  and avoid self pity like a plague and never disapprove yourself in whatever you do. It is your work anyway done to your level best. Good luck!

Why Experiences Are Better Than Money

Why Experiences Are Better Than Money

Some people focus on accumulating large amounts of money and spending them on things as opposed to experiences. They believe that material things will bring them happiness. However, this is not entirely true because material things can only provide happiness for a short time. Sooner or later, we are bound to get used to the things that we bought, and when we adapt to these materialistic things, they do not seem important to us anymore. Also, with the every changing technology, materialistic things also keep changing over time and therefore our desires change accordingly.

The Benefit Of Experiences

Experiences are much different from materialistic things because they provide us with treasured memories that we can keep with us for the rest of our lives. For instance, when we travel, we interact with many different people, make new friends, indulge in some adventures, and eat exquisite cuisines that we will never forget about. Materialistic things, on the other hand, get boring after a certain time, and with most materialistic things, you have to keep upgrading them to achieve even close to the same level of expectation and happiness that you received upon your first purchase.

Additionally, experiences help you gain more with a broader perspective on life, and interaction with people of different cultures, and an opportunity for learning new skills. We happen to be social beings that had a basic need to connect with people around us. Experiences allow us to do exactly that, thereby making us far more satisfied with life and much happier.

The Role Of Money In Our Lives

We are all aware that money is a limiting resource in our lives. However, we only need an amount that can take care of our basic necessities. Once our basic necessaries are fulfilled, we can start spending time on gaining valuable experiences that will remain with us forever and teach us great things. People who rely on money to buy materialistic things will never truly attain happiness. And it is a fact that people who invest their time and resources on experiences tend to be far happier than those who invest in materialistic things.

Experiences become heavily ingrained into your existence and become a part of you. On the other hand, while you may associate heavily with certain materialistic things, they will always remain separate from your existence.

A Selection of Experience Quotes

“Who are you?
Are you in touch with all of your darkest fantasies?
Have you created a life for yourself where you can experience them?
I have. I am crazy.
But I am free.” ~ Lana Del Rey

“There are no coincidences in life. What person that wandered in and out of your life was there for some purpose, even if they caused you harm. Sometimes, it doesn’t make sense the short periods of time we get with people, or the outcomes from their choices. However, if you turn it over to God he promises that you will see the big picture in the hereafter. Nothing is too small to be a mistake.” ~ Shannon L. Alder

“Sometimes the best and worst times of your life can coincide. It is a talent of the soul to discover the joy in pain—-thinking of moments you long for, and knowing you’ll never have them again. The beautiful ghosts of our past haunt us, and yet we still can’t decide if the pain they caused us out weighs the tender moments when they touched our soul. This is the irony of love.” ~ Shannon L. Alder

“There are times when the actual experience of leaving something makes you wish desperately that you could stay, and then there are times when the leaving reminds you a hundred times over why exactly you had to leave in the first place.” ~ Shauna Niequist

“Love, like everything else in life, should be a discovery, an adventure, and like most adventures, you don’t know you’re having one until you’re right in the middle of it.” ~ E.A. Bucchianeri

“The more screwed up you are, the more I like you. As long as you’ve managed to hold onto your identity through all the shit, then it won’t matter how twisted you are. I will love you more for it.” ~ Ashly Lorenzana

“Dear God

Please take away my pain and despair of yesterday and any unpleasant memories and replace them with Your glorious promise of new hope. Show me a fresh HS-inspired way of relating to negative things that have happened. I ask You for the mind of Christ so I can discern Your voice from the voice of my past. I pray that former rejection and deep hurts will not color what I see and hear now.

Help me to see all the choices I have ahead of me that can alter the direction of my life. I ask You to empower me to let go of the painful events and heartaches that would keep me bound. Thank You for Your forgiveness that You have offered to me at such a great price. Pour it into my heart so I can relinquish bitterness hurts and disappointments that have no place in my life. Please set me free to forgive those who have sinned against me and caused me pain and also myself. Open my heart to receive Your complete forgiveness and amazing grace. You have promised to bind up my wounds Psa 147:3 and restore my soul Psa 23:3 .

Help me to relinquish my past surrender to You my present and move to the future You have prepared for me. I ask You to come into my heart and make me who You would have me to be so that I might do Your will here on earth. I thank You Lord for all that’s happened in my past and for all I have become through those experiences. I pray You will begin to gloriously renew my present.” ~ Sue Augustine
