Rejection Does Not Justify Giving Up
Once upon a time…..
There was a farmer who lived in small village. He made a very small income with the harvest that he carried to the town on the back of his donkey to sell. He was a man with a limited vision and felt content when the smallest of his needs were fulfilled. Every day, the farmer took the same road to and from the town.
One day, on his way back home, the farmer stopped by a well to have some water. Unfortunately, as he looked for the well’s bucket, his donkey fell into it. The farmer felt quite miserable at losing his donkey like that.
However, the donkey was not dead yet.
It cried out to his master to help him out of the well. The farmer stared at the pathetic creature. It had been with him for a very long time. With the passage of time, it had started growing weary and old. The farmer though over whether he ought to get the donkey out of the well or not. He counted the pros and cons of the whole situation while the donkey pleaded for help.
Ultimately, the farmer decided that his time and effort were not worth saving the donkey. However, he wanted to put the poor animal out of its misery. He decided to bury it in the well.
Nearby the well there was a shovel and some dirt. The farmer started throwing dirt into the well. The donkey was not really miserable because was going to die. He had hoped that his master would come to his aid but instead, his master had rejected the loyalty and the service that the donkey had given him for all those years. In fact, his master was even trying to kill him off once and for all.
The donkey looked to the skies praying for help. He soon realized that the help he needed was not going to come from up there. It could, however, come from the well itself. He looked around him. The dirt that his master was throwing on top of him was sliding off of him and landing on the bottom of the well. As his master threw more, he shrugged it off too. Soon he understood that if he kept shrugging the dirt off, he would actually climb out of the well!
Determined this time, the donkey continued his efforts. Soon he was successfully rising higher with the help of the dirt. After about half an hour, the donkey reached the brim of the well. As he climbed out of it, his master looked stunned at the intelligence of the animal.
He tried to clamber back on its back so it could take him home but the donkey shrugged off his master and walked away haughtily.
Moral: You should NEVER give up!
If the donkey had given up because his master had rejected him, he would never have made it out of the well!
