Drowning Your Fears

Drowning Your Fears

Drowning Your Fears

This is a story of a little buffalo that learned to overcome his fears. A long time ago, a little buffalo lived in the plains of Africa. He was living a comfortable life with his herd but one thing was always on his mind: LIONS!

The mere thought of lions terrified him to the core.  One day he approached his father and said, “Dad, can we move away from the plains, please?” This unusual request surprised his dad because he always thought that his son loved the vast plains. “Why do you wish to move away from the plains, my son. Is something wrong?” inquired the worried dad.

The little buffalo hesitated a bit but explained, “I am just afraid of the lions, dad. They can get us in the plains. What shall I do if I see a lion?” The large male replied, “Dear son, I know the lions are scary but the worst thing you can do is run from them! If you ever come across a lion just stand your ground”

“But why dad?” cried the little buffalo, “they are scary and will try to kill me. I am no match for their sharp teeth and claws! What am I going to do?”

“When you see a lion simply stand your ground and show him you are not afraid. If he doesn’t go away, show him your sharp horns and stomp the ground with your powerful hooves. If even that fails to scare the lion then slowly move towards him. If nothing works, simply charge at him with all your might!”

“But dad I will be too scared to do that. Can’t I just run?” the scared little buffalo asked in concern. “Oh let me tell you what’s going to happen if you run. As soon as you turn your back the lion is going to come after you. He will attack you when you are unprepared! The only way to defeat a lion is to attack it first”, explain his dad.

The young buffalo thought for a few seconds and then asked, “What if he attacks back?”

“Look around you, my son. Your herd is big and strong. Just remember that we are here. We won’t be able to help you if you panic and run, but if you charge towards him, we’ll always be right behind you”.

The little buffalo took a deep breath and said, “I think I understand, dad. I cannot run away from my fears. Even if I were to leave the plains, the fear is not going to leave me. The only way of overcoming my fear is to drown it forever and I am going to do that by facing it!”

We all have our own lions and we can run from them for as long as we want. But the thing with fear is that you can keep running but you cannot hide. Sooner or later your fears are going to get the best of you. The only way to defeat your fears is to face them head-on. So go ahead, face your fears and never be afraid again in your life!

The little buffalo got over his fear, when are you going to defeat yours?

The only way of overcoming my fear is to drown it forever and I am going to do that by facing it!”
