Numerous civilians fled their homes on Wednesday as soldiers fought Boko Haram insurgents who introduced attack on Jiddari-Polo area, a suburb near Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.
It was learnt that the attackers occurred 7:05 pm after the Muslim prayer time to Jiddari Polo basic location of Maiduguri City, shooting sporadically as locals scampered for security. The troops, regional hunters and civilian JTF were spotted heading towards the Federal High Court location of Jiddari Polo at precisely 7:20 pm, witnesses stated. Boko Haram insurgents had on Sunday night eliminated 30 guests from lots of tourists that were required to pass the night in Auno, a neighborhood 25 kilometres far from Maiduguri.
Some of the victims, consisting of a mom and a baby, were reportedly scorched beyond acknowledgment by a fire from a gas tanker set ablaze by the terrorists.
Witnesses said the terrorists, believed to be loyal to Abubakar Shekau, likewise abducted 22 individuals and charred 18 vehicles and properties worth millions of Naira.
Besides assaulting the travellers, the insurgents also charred stores and domestic houses, witnesses said.
The assault on Auno supposedly occurred at around 9:50 pm when hundreds of visitors who were come by soldiers manning the road around 4:45 pm on Sunday were asleep.
