Age is Just a Number
Remember the thrill of rock climbing, scuba diving, bungee jumping and many more adventures of the sort? If you are looming near your 50s, these are the things that you probably miss the most. You experience the best memories of your life at the peak of your age.
Young and hot blooded as you are you can accomplish just about anything! With passing time, you lose this agility. However, does that mean that you lose your abilities too? Absolutely not!
The example of the Old Lion shows quite clearly that for the King of the Jungle, Age is just a number!
The Old Lion
Once upon a time…..
There was an old and sick Lion living in a cave. He lay there forgotten day in and day out. Nobody cared about him. He was losing his speed and could not chase after his prey anymore. Anytime that he did try to capture a prey and hunt to eat, he failed tremendously. He felt more and more exhausted with each passing day. He knew he was getting weaker by the minute.
Whatever he was going through, he could not change the fact that he still needed to feed. He had to devise some way to ensure his survival. The lion came up with a brilliant plan to ensure that his needs were met. He pretended to play weaker than he had been. Other animals that passed by his cave heard his painful cries from inside.
They would feel concerned and go inside to ask about his health and well-being. The lion would take advantage of their kindness and prance at them as soon as they were close enough to him. Soon, it became a method of hunting for the Lion. Whoever came in to ask about his health would become his food.
The Lion, although physically impaired due to age still had his wits about him. His technique worked just too well. The Lion will shortly learn that his technique would soon be tested by someone cleverer than him.
One day a young Fox passed by his cave. Like other animals, the Fox heard the moaning sounds of the Lion from inside the cave. He peeked inside instead of walking in precariously. As he stood at the edge, he saw footprints of several animals walking into the cave. Strikingly, there were no footprints leading out of the cave. The Fox understood the cunning plan of the Lion.
“How are you doing?” He asked the Lion from outside the cave.
The Lion answered weakly. “Not too well. But why are you standing outside? Please, come in.” He added courteously.
The Fox was now sure of the cunningness of the Lion. “I would have come in, had I not seen that all of the footprints that walk inside your cave don’t eventually walk out of it!”
Moral: Age is just a number.
Despite being old, the Lion’s abilities were second to none, even at such an old and weak age! We too have the capacity fend for ourselves, no matter how old we are. We can learn from the example of the Lion, but the young fox teaches us a lesson too! Despite its age, it could tell that the lion was up to no good without walking into his trap!
