The art of becoming a better person

Life is a continuous process of development. We constantly learn and evolve from birth to the day we die. It is inevitable that people grow in life in response to the circumstances they have been through. But, what direction do they grow in – this depends on the individual.

The steady evolution in a positive direction is not something which comes naturally, but rather, great effort is often needed in order to achieve that. What’s more, not everyone knows the art of becoming a better person. But with practice, many can learn to develop the qualities that transform them into a better person every day. Some tips to develop those qualities include:

1)   Tame the Anger Within

Anger is not just an external reaction for something. Many times, it is much deeper than that. The feelings of anger can be deep rooted and hidden inside one’s psyche. This type of anger is not expressed by a mere shouting match or blows, but can be seen in the way an individual views the world. It becomes a part of the thinking process and can generate negativity and a pessimistic approach towards life. Therefore, expressed emotions are much better than bottled up feelings, as the suppression of emotions can create a sense of gloominess. Try to release those negative feelings and reshape your psyche.

2)   Practice Forgiveness

Holding grudges is the worst thing one can do for personal growth.  It largely hinders a person’s ability to let go of the past and live in the present. Doing anything new requires a fresh and positive approach, and so does becoming a better person. It is better to let go of any past grudges, revenge and animosities by practicing forgiveness. Forgive anyone who wronged you or betrayed you in any manner and with that – forgive yourself. A person cannot start a new life with a fresh approach if they are too focused on their past.

3)   Adopt Honesty

Many of the problems in the world today are due to the fact that people are not true to themselves and others. Do not lead people on and learn to be clear with your expressions and actions. Do not cheat or lie to others. The art of becoming a better person largely requires a component of purity and truthfulness in one’s character.

4)   Be Yourself

You should always be yourself, others are already taken! This statement is more than true because it emphasizes on the fact that you should never lose your edge. There is no doubt that different situations in life require adjustments and compromises, but in the process of adjusting, one should never lose their own personality. It is extremely important to be your own person in every situation, place and point that life takes you to.

5)   Flexibility – Openness to new experiences

Developing flexibility as a character trait is always beneficial as it is one of the most required traits in developing as a better person. What’s more, flexibility and adaptability does not only make life’s situations easier but also help in living with a better and happier attitude.

These are some of the many tips that help build up the required character traits for a better personality. The art of becoming a better person starts from your willingness to work on these aspects. The first rule is to be ready to accept the change!
