Remembering Prince, one of the Greatest Music Icons

It is not every day that that music industry is able to witness great music icons and the recently deceased Prince was certainly one of them. The iconic singer and musician was known for his funky dressing sense, lavish lifestyle, dance moves and music passed way last month away at his studio/home in Paisley Park. The music icon was 57 when he passed away and left the world of music in shock and in awe of his achievements.

There was never a singer who would ever be or ever was recognized by a single color than as Prince was identified with the color Purple. Often the dubbed the Purple One for his love for everything purple, Prince was much more than singer; he was inspirational performer and a fashion icon. This blog will celebrate the man called Prince instead of dwelling over his death because he had so much joy, happiness and life to give away till his very last breath.

An Out of the Blue Hit

Purple was a relative outsider to the music fans of the 70s. There was little notice of how Prince’s 1978 For You and 1979’s Prince came out of the blue and became big hits with the latter going platinum. This set the tone for the 1980’s where Prince really started to come good and leave his mark on the industry. It was his “Dirty Mind” music that made music fans going all Gaga over him. The 22 year old Prince at that time knew what he was doing and had the confidence to continue with his innovations coming up with one of the best songs of the 80s “When You were Mine”.

Prince hailed from a musical family and his father was a piano player, while his mom was also a singer, singing jazz through her career. It was because of his roots that Prince was able to write his first song when he was only 7 years old.

If the 80s were an indicator of anything, it was that more was to come from the musical maestro. There were plenty of impressive showings by singer in the 90s but none were as impressive as the hit song Purple Rain which according to some critics was an even bigger triumphant fusion that Michael Jackson’s infamous Thriller.

A Fashion Icon Breaking Norms

Prince was a lot of things but the one thing that he will be remembered for apart from his eccentric dance moves and music is his sense of fashion. He was able to break a number of fashion taboos for men by wearing patterned jumpers to button up suits and an abundance of purple in every shade and size.

The interesting thing about Prince was that he was not only fashion icon for men; he was also a fashion icon for women who modeled their style on Prince’s use of eyeliner, mascara, lace and leather.

All in all Prince was an epic performer, who stood out of the rest of the music crowd with his wit and imagination. He is definitely a legend that will be missed for times to come.
