The Stranger

A quite a few years before I was born, my Dad met a stranger who was new to our small town. From the beginning, Dad was fascinated with this enchanting newcomer and soon invited him to live with our family.

The stranger was quickly accepted and was around from then on.

As I grew up, I never questioned his place in my family.

In my young mind, he had a special niche. My parents were complementary

instructors: Mom taught me *good from evil,* and Dad taught me *to obey.*

But the stranger... He was our storyteller.

He would keep us spellbound for hours on end with adventures, mysteries and comedies.

If I wanted to know anything about politics, history or science, he always

knew the answers about the past, understood the present and even seemed able to predict the future!

He took my family to the first major league ball game.

He made me laugh, and he made me cry.

The stranger never stopped talking, but Dad didn't seem to mind.

Sometimes, Mom would get up quietly while the rest of us were shushing each other to listen to what he had to say, and she would go to the kitchen for peace and quiet.

(I wonder now if she ever prayed for the stranger to leave.)

Dad ruled our household with certain moral convictions, but the stranger never felt obligated to honor them.

Profanity, for example, was not allowed in our home - not from us, our

friends or any visitors.

After our long time visitor stayed longer he became more daring however,

and even got away with four-letter words that burned my ears and made my dad squirm and my mother blush.

My Dad didn't permit the liberal use of alcohol but the stranger encouraged

us to try it on a regular basis.

He made cigarettes look cool, cigars manly, and pipes distinguished.

He talked freely (much too freely!) about sex.

His comments were sometimes blatant, sometimes suggestive, and generally embarrassing..

I now know that my early concepts about relationships were influenced

strongly by the stranger.

Time after time, he opposed the values of my parents, yet he was seldom rebuked... And the stranger was *NEVER* asked to leave.....

More than sixty years have passed since the stranger moved in with our

world-wide family.

He has blended right in and is not nearly as fascinating as he was at first.

Still, if you could walk into my parents' den today, you would still find

him sitting over in his corner, waiting for someone to listen to him talk, and watch him draw his pictures. ....

His name?....

We just call him "TV."

*He has a wife now....we call her "Computer."*

*Their first child is "Cell Phone."*

*Second child " Internet."*

*Third child " iPad."*

*Fourth child is "Social Media."*

*Note: This should be required reading for every household!*

This is my second last Blog... Just a note to let you know that I have decided not to pursue Social Media anymore Will be spending more time with Family! and now that I am feeling better after recovery from my Cancer. GOING POSTAL...

There was a man who worked for the Post Office whose job was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses.

One day, a letter came addressed in a shaky handwriting to God with no actual address. He thought he should open it to see what it was about.

The letter read:-

Dear God,

I am an 83 year old widow, living on a very small pension.

Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had $100 in it, which was all the money I had until my next pension payment.

Next Sunday is Christmas, and I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with, have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope. Can you please help me?

The postal worker was touched. He showed the letter to all the other workers. Each one dug into his or her wallet and came up with a few dollars.

By the time he made the rounds, he had collected $96, which they put into an envelope and sent to the woman.

The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of Edna and the dinner she would be able to share with her friends.

Christmas came and went.

A few days later, another letter came from the same old lady to God.

All the workers gathered around while the letter was opened.

It read:-

Dear God,

How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me?

Because of your gift of love, I was able to fix a glorious dinner for my friends. We had a very nice day and I told my friends of your wonderful gift.

By the way, there was $4 missing.

I think it might have been those bastards at the post office!

THE PERFECT HUSBAND

Several men are in the locker room of a golf club. A cell phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands free speaker function and begins to talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen.

MAN: "Hello."

WOMAN: "Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"

MAN: "Yes."

WOMAN: "I am at the mall now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $1,000. Is it OK if I buy it?"

MAN: "Sure, go ahead if you like it that much."

WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the new 2012 models. I saw one I really liked.."

MAN: "How much?"

WOMAN: "$90,000"

MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."

WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing . .. . the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $950,000."

MAN: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer of $900,000. They will probably take it. If not, we can go the extra 50 thousand because it's really what you want."

WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you so much!"

MAN: "Bye! I love you, too."

The man hangs up.

The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths agape.

Why we must all get along....

There In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment.

Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of weanling pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger. Would they become cubs or pork chops?

Have you ever...

• Promised to deliver something by a set date and later regretted it?

• Volunteered for a job you had no idea would take so long?

Eventually, we all learn by experience a basic law of life: It's always easier to get in than get out!

The Bible says, "It is a trap for a man to dedicate something rashly and only later to consider his vows"
(Proverbs 20:25 NIV).

There are three common commitment traps:

1. The Money Trap: It's always easier to get into debt than out of debt! It's always easier to borrow than to pay it back.

2. The Partnership Trap: It's always easier to get into a partnership, or a relationship, than to get out of one!

3. The Time Trap: It's always easier to fill your schedule than to fulfill it! You can get so many irons in the fire that you put out the fire!

The solution:-
Remember what the Bible says - don't make rash vows.

In other words, choose your commitments carefully; think before you speak; under-promise and over-deliver. With this, you'll build a reputation as a person of your word.

Glenn V. Cunningham (August 4, 1909 – March 10, 1988) was an American distance runner and athlete considered by many the greatest American miler of all time. He received the James E. Sullivan Award as the top amateur athlete in the United States in 1933.

This story should be printed and left where you will see it often - and then everytime you come across a project you think you cannot successfully complete read this story again.

Eight-year-old Glenn Cunningham raced into a burning schoolhouse to rescue his big brother. When he regained consciousness five hours later, his brother was dead and Glenn's horribly burned legs lay limp and without feeling. Specialists urged his parents to have Glenn's legs amputated immediately - he would never walk again - but Glenn pleaded against them. Even though the toes of his left foot were gone and the bone supporting the ball of his left foot practically destroyed,

Glenn was determined to walk again.

That was the summer of 1919. One week later Glenn announced he was ready to stand up. His father lifted him out of bed, stood him upright and let go. Glenn crumpled to the floor. Every day Glenn's parents carefully rubbed his dead limbs. Every day for weeks, they repeated the lifting-falling exercise. Then one day, for a few seconds, Glenn Cunningham stood on his own.

A few days later Glenn took a few small, shaky steps. His parents kept on rubbing his legs. He ate carefully and began to push himself hard, running everywhere he went - to the fields, to the store, to school.

In 1930, with no toes on his left foot and almost missing a major bone, Glenn Cunningham set a high school record for the mile run, 4:24.7. He enrolled in Kansas University and two years later qualified for the Olympics with a United States record-setting mile of 4:11.1. Despite tonsillitis at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1932, he still finished fourth. He defeated milers around the world, repeatedly breaking his own records. In his early thirties he retired, holding the world mile record of 4:04.4.

Cunningham won the Sullivan medal in 1933 for his various running achievements in middle distance.

In the 1932 Olympics he took 4th place in the 1500 m, and in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, he took silver in the 1500 meters.

In 1934, he set the world record for the mile run at 4:06.8, which stood for three years.

In 1936, he set the world record in the 800 m run.

In 1938, he set a world record in the indoor mile run of 4:04.4. He retired from competition in 1940. (Roger Bannister was the first to break the four minute mile, in 1954.)

Cunningham's goal-unachieved was a four minute mile. Many people tried that before and failed. Several theorists proclaimed it was impossible physiologically for humans. Runners tried running steady and fast-paced the whole time. Others tried to go steady for the first half then give it all they had. Cunningham tried many different ways. His greatest success was a strategy, developed from childhood, of running his fastest right from the beginning and then throughout every race.

As I was lying in bed pondering the problems of the world, I rapidly realised that I don't really give a rat's **se.

It's the tortoise life for me!

1. If walking/cycling is good for your health, the postman would be immortal.

2. A whale swims all day, only eats fish, drinks water, and is fat.

3. A rabbit runs and hops and only lives 15 years.

4. A tortoise doesn't run and does nothing, yet it lives for 450 years.

And you tell me to exercise?? I don't think so.

Batting My Eyelashes at You

A baby camel asked his mother, "Why do we have such large hoofs on our feet?"

She turned to him. "God made us that way for a very special reason," and she began her explanation. "The big hoofs are to keep us from sinking into the sand."

"Oh! So why do we have long eyelashes?"

"It's to protect our eyes from the sand."

"Why the big humps?"

"That is to store fat and have enough energy to go long distances in the hot desert!"

"I see!" The baby camel stretched his neck and looked up at his mother, "The big hoofs are to keep from sinking into the sand, the long eyelashes are to keep the sand out of our eyes, and the humps are to store energy to travel long distances...then what are we doing in this cage in the middle of a zoo?"

Like the camel, I had asked the same kind of questions.

When my blindness set in, I initially locked myself in a cage of self-pity and bitterness.

Weary from pacing within that gloomy cage, something nudged me to see beyond my circumstance and unfortunate plight.

Heavens! What was I thinking? Those bars were self-imposed.

But worst of all, I'd supported them with the cold metal of my negative attitude.

Eventually, eagerness to leave my stuffy cell of discontent prompted me to open my ears to hear a reassuring whisper - God had created me for much more.

Itching to break free, I broke down those bars and stepped out into the desert of life. I trudged through the heat with determination and drive. I endured the blistering sun with perseverance and tenacity. I quenched my thirst with fresh inspiration and encouragement. And the hooves of confidence kept me from sinking into the sand of insecurity.

Thinking ahead, I made sure I'd stored a healthy supply of wisdom and positive attitude to take me through the long haul.

Goodness gracious. Each time I reached another point in my journey, my eyes saw a whole new world with opportunities to make a difference. Best of all, I was delighted with the affirmation that I was indeed created for much more!

Bars come in all sizes and shapes. Some are physical; others are emotional or even mental. But none can withstand the force of determination that breaks them down. The effort is worth it and the results, simply amazing!

So, batting my long eyelashes

to keep out the sand of discouragement....,

* Step back and peek at what bars limit you.

* Take a deep breath, break them down, and emerge into the

freshness of a new life.

I loved this and want to share it with you...

Why do I have a variety of friends who are all so different in character? How can I get along with them all? I think that each one helps to bring out a "different" part of me.

With one of them I am polite. I joke with another friend. I sit down and talk about serious matters with one. With another I laugh a lot. I may have a coke with one.

I listen to one friend's problems. Then I listen to another one's advice for me.

My friends are all like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. When completed, they form a treasure box. A treasure of friends! They are my friends who understand me better than myself, who support me through good days and bad days.

We all care together and for each other.

Real Age doctors tell us that friends are good for our health.

The Ant and the Grasshopper

In a field one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

"Why not come and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling and moiling in that way?"

"I am helping to lay up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and recommend you to do the same."

"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper, "we have got plenty of food at present." But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer.

Then the Grasshopper knew.

Faith Hope Love

There's a lot of things overated in this life isn't there?

Hope isn't one of them

When you are trapped in a tunnel of discouragement
it's HOPE that points to the light at the end

When you are burned out, stressed out or worn out
it's HOPE that gives you fresh energy

When you are unemployed,
it's HOPE that helps you get out of bed in the morning so you can look for a new job

When you are wrestling with a niggling illness,
it's HOPE that takes the edge off the uncertainty we have

When you are struggling with addiction,
it's HOPE that refuels your recovery

And when we say goodbye to the person on earth we love the most,

it's HOPE that helps us navigate the deepest pain of our grief

When we sin or when we fail,
it's HOPE that allows us to get back up and stare sin in the face and say

"SIN - You are NOT my friend anymore!"

Recipe: Tandoori Lamb Burger

Recipe: Tandoori Lamb Burger

Healthy eating is part of a life well lived. It can make you feel more energised, increase productivity and help maintain a healthy weight. Healthy eating consistently can also have its own rewards as you near retirement, helping you keep active. Best of all, it can all add up to a longer and fulfilling life.

A delicious twist on the traditional burger, this Tandoori lamb burger makes for a great weekend lunch idea that is healthier than many traditional burgers and tasty too.

Ingredients

1 large red capsicum, halved and deseeded

Olive oil cooking spray*

2 tbs tandoori paste

1/2 cup low-fat Greek-style yoghurt*

400g lamb loin fillet, trimmed

1 Lebanese cucumber; halved, deseeded and finely chopped

2 tbs chopped fresh mint

4 wholegrain bread rolls*, split and lightly toasted

1 cup mixed salad leaves

Instructions

Preheat grill on high. Lightly spray the capsicum with olive oil and place skin-side up on the grill tray. Grill for 8-10 minutes or until skin is charred. Transfer to a plastic bag, seal, and set aside for 5 minutes – this helps lift the skin. Peel the skin from the capsicum and discard. Cut the flesh into strips.
Meanwhile, combine the tandoori paste and 2 tablespoons of the yoghurt in a ceramic bowl. Add the lamb and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 15 minutes, if time permits.
Combine the remaining yoghurt, cucumber and mint in a small bowl. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Preheat the barbecue or a large non-stick frying pan on high. Lightly spray with olive oil, add lamb and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium, or until cooked to your liking. Transfer to a plate, cover loosely with foil and set aside for 5 minutes to rest. Thinly slice the lamb.
Spread a little of the cucumber yoghurt mixture over the base of each toasted roll. Top with salad leaves, capsicum, lamb and a dollop of the remaining cucumber yoghurt mixture. Sandwich together with the roll tops and serve.

Cooking tip

Use a small metal teaspoon to scrape the seeds from the cucumber halved.

Dear Reader:

In September of 2008, our economic system changed in the blink of an eye. We went from everyday living, working and spending money to a whole new financial landscape, virtually overnight. Wall Street, the banking industry, the housing industry, and the automotive industry took major hits like we haven't seen since the 1980s and even the Great Depression of 1929. As a result of these issues, I found myself on a quest.

Many of my colleagues, friends and family found themselves in a new era of questioning the future, and how earning a living might change in the coming months and years ahead. A number of people began losing jobs. I was very concerned for everyone.

I immediately started creating a list of small businesses and freelance careers, which one could create with very little money to start. My list grew very quickly, and as it grew, I began to research each and every business idea, trade, opportunity, and career I found interesting as a start-up business or sideline for supplemental income. I then began sharing these ideas with others, and the consensus was, you should create a book or list with that stuff! So I did! One year later, this book was born.

50 Great Money-Making Ideas for Any Economy was one of the least expected bodies of work I ever thought I would create! After all, I was very busy working in my own business. I never thought I would find myself becoming a career counselor, but I have, and I absolutely love this line of work. It is a calling I feel in my heart, and now my hard work and research is available to you.

In addition to this first volume, more volumes will follow in the very near future, so stay tuned! My goal is to provide for you ongoing money-making ideas for EVERY economic landscape. While some of my business ideas are not necessarily "new," my detailed research and how to go about pursuing them is unique.

Set some time aside to create your bucket list and stop putting off your dreams for "someday" The best way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as a magnificent adventure. This list is a summary of many websites I have researched.

Imagine being able to say at the end of your life's journey: "Wow, what a ride!" And what better way to have a fulfilling, adventurous life than by creating a bucket list, and taking the necessary steps to cross off each item on your list?

Although you should definitely include travel on your life list ~ if seeing the world, meeting new people, and experiencing different cultures is something that interests you, as well as including all of the different adventures you would like to go on, you should also take the time to decide what you want to accomplish in each area of your life.

In the infinite wisdom of the Urban Dictionary, “bucket list” is defined as: A list of things to do before you die. Comes from the term “kicked the bucket”. Life isn’t about how many breaths you breath… it’s about the moments that take your breath away.

If I Had My Life to Live Over
I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage

I would have talked less and listened more

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded

I would have eaten the popcorn in the "good" living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed

I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television, and more while watching life

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later Now go get washed up for dinner"

There would have been more "I love you's" More "I'm sorry's"

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute, look at it and really see it, live it, and never give it back

Stop sweating the small stuff Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what

Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who DO love us

Let's think about what God HAS blessed us with
