5 WAYS YOU COULD BE MURDERING YOUR CREATIVITY

Our brain has got the ability to think far and wide. Studies shows that we are born with excellent intelligence and that urge to experiment, explore and discover. However, as we grow up, this urge dwindles with time due to external factors that affect us. The environment we grow in contributes a lot. Taking huge percentage are the people that guard, educate or mentor us. When we have grown up though, the power to cultivate or grow our creativity depends on us. And we are supposed to let go the past that we didn’t have control over. Here are some of the things that we do/experience that can mercilessly kill our creativity.

Limits/ competition

Win-lose situation of any kind suppresses creativity. Why? Because it presents itself as there is only one that can win and all others are losers. That only one person is right and all the others are wrong. That there is only one methodology and any other is wrong. This limits the way a person can think by making him try to master the one way to victory. Healthy competitions are the ones that are open. They are those that recognize that everyone is a winner in his capacity because everyone has different abilities, skills and talent. And every method used could be right only that it needs an improvement or discovery that has not been made yet. It should not give specific limits of anything but always leave room for improvement. No one knows how far or broad science can go. No one can exhaust knowledge.

Tight Schedules

We over -program ourselves too much that we leave no space for us to be bored. Or have free time to do nothing. From the time we wake up to the time we retire to bed we have something to keep us busy. We are failing to know that having free time allows our mind to wander and feed itself with ideas, new ideas!

Rewards

As much as they are source of motivation to do better, it limits creativity in that, once the person achieves what it takes to get the reward, he relaxes and explores no more. This is such that one will always be reward-centered other than adventure-centered.

Supervision/restriction

Controlling oneself so much holds back our creativity. We should allow ourselves some kind of liberty. Freedom in whatever we do might land us in wonderland. Sometimes we just need to break the rules, go a different path and see what happens.

Resources

Motivation to any creativity are only resources and time. This should be in abundance to eliminate fears of wastage and lateness since one might have to try one thing over and over again to gain perfect result. Needless to say, if these two are not present, creativity will be far from being present.
