5 Life Lessons Celebrities Teach Us

Some celebs are no less than a superhero because hidden behind their mask of glitz and glamour lays a story of hardship, struggle, and bravery. These celebrities didn’t become an overnight sensation, but worked hard for their fame and fortune.

For people like us who look to them for inspiration and refer to them as our idols, it’s keeps the light of hope alive. Before they were famous, someone’s story, journey, or just pure determination kept hope alive in their hearts as well. These are the never before heard stories of celebs who not only inspire us through their work, but also from their life:

1.     Steve Buscemi, Actor Turned Hero

Did you know that Steve Buscemi was a firefighter from 1980 to 1984? Most people don’t know that about the famed Boardwalk Empire actor’s former career as a firefighter, until he again embraced it during 9/11. He worked alongside other firefighters for numerous days, digging inside the rubble to save lives. He may portray a villain on screen sometimes, but in real life, he earned a hero status.

2.     Steven Spielberg, Dreams are Valid

Steven Spielberg is a living legend that needs no introduction. The diversity of movies he’s directed has earned himself a spot amongst the world’s acclaimed directors. However, his journey was not always smooth flowing. Spielberg, growing up, met his share of bumps in the road, but didn’t lose his will to become one of the greats.

After being rejected twice from the prestigious film school, the University of Southern California School of Theater, Film, and Television, he still kept his dream alive of directing films one day. He went on to become a successful director in his field, and it was all because he kept his hope alive.

3.     Sidney Poitier, Defeated all Odds

Sidney Poitier, a Bahamian-American dreamt of acting on the big screen. When he auditioned for a part in a play, he was told that he was not cut out for acting. Even though he left the theatre disheartened, he came back, not for another shot at the part, instead to work as a janitor in the theatre. All he asked for in return was acting lessons. His will to improve his acting skills led him to become the first African American to win an Academy Award for Best Actor.

4.     Colonel Sanders, The King of Persistence

Colonel Sanders is the founder of your favorite chicken with his Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants available in different parts of the world. However, seeing the late Colonel’s track record of keeping a job makes us wonder how in the world was he able to launch such a successful career in the restaurant industry? Only one answer comes to mind, persistence. The Colonel went to 1009 restaurants, requesting them to sell his chicken, until his prayers were answered and one restaurant agreed. After that, the rest is history.

5.     Jay-Z, The Risk Taker

Jay-Z’s fans know him as one of the most acclaimed stars of the hip-hop industry, but entrepreneurs see him as having one of the most gifted minds in the industry. It all began when record labels rejected Jay-Z because he was too old or not tough enough. Jay-Z with his friends decided to take matters in their own hands.

They went on to launch the record label Roc-A-Fella Records, which made Jay-Z a millionaire. The risk of opening a record label was huge, but all great entrepreneurs have taken major risks to get where they are now, and Jay-Z is no different.

The next time you are looking for inspiration, conjure up the stories of these celebs in mind and remind yourself that dreams are possible.
